FERPA & Student Data Privacy Statement

Commitment to Student Privacy

Where Trades Go ("WTG") is committed to protecting the privacy, security, and integrity of student information. We understand that educational institutions are entrusted with sensitive student records and that compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is essential.

WTG has been designed to help educational institutions connect students with career opportunities while maintaining appropriate controls over student information and privacy.

FERPA Compliance

Where Trades Go recognizes the requirements of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. §1232g; 34 CFR Part 99).

WTG acts as a service provider to participating educational institutions and uses student information solely for the purposes authorized by the institution and the student.

WTG does not claim ownership of student educational records and does not disclose personally identifiable information from education records except as authorized by the educational institution, the student, or as otherwise permitted by applicable law.

Information Collected

Depending on the services utilized by an institution, WTG may collect and store:

  • Student name
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • School affiliation
  • Trade program or field of study
  • Graduation status
  • Certifications and credentials
  • Skill assessment results
  • Employment interests
  • Resume or profile information
  • Photos, videos, and portfolio materials voluntarily uploaded by students
  • Employment and apprenticeship preferences

WTG collects only the information necessary to facilitate educational, apprenticeship, and employment matching services.

Student Control of Information

Students maintain control over the information they choose to include in their profiles.

Students may:

  • Update profile information
  • Modify employment preferences
  • Add or remove portfolio materials
  • Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Control the visibility of certain profile elements where permitted by the institution

School Administrative Controls

Participating schools are provided administrative tools that may allow authorized personnel to:

  • View student profile completion status
  • Monitor student participation
  • Verify certifications and credentials
  • Track employer invitations and hiring activity
  • Manage student visibility settings
  • Review aggregate reporting and placement outcomes

Schools maintain control over which students are included within their institutional dashboard.

Employer Access

Employers using WTG may only view information that has been designated as available for employer review.

Employer access is limited to information necessary for evaluating employment, apprenticeship, internship, or work-based learning opportunities.

WTG does not sell student data to employers or third parties.

Protection of Student Data

WTG employs commercially reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect student information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction.

These safeguards may include:

  • Encrypted data transmission
  • Secure authentication procedures
  • Role-based access controls
  • Audit logging
  • Restricted administrative access
  • Routine security monitoring

Data Sharing

WTG does not sell student personal information.

Student information may be shared only:

  • With authorized school personnel
  • With employers approved to participate in the platform
  • At the direction of the student
  • As required by law
  • As otherwise permitted under FERPA or applicable state privacy laws

Student Under Age 18

WTG recognizes that some participating students may be minors.

Schools maintain authority regarding student participation and visibility settings for students under 18 years of age.

Additional controls may be implemented to restrict the public visibility of minor student information.

Data Retention

WTG retains student information only as long as necessary to provide services, fulfill contractual obligations, comply with legal requirements, or as directed by participating educational institutions.

Upon termination of a school's participation, WTG will cooperate with reasonable requests regarding student record retention, transfer, or deletion consistent with applicable law and contractual obligations.

School Ownership of Educational Records

Educational institutions retain ownership and control of student education records submitted to or maintained within WTG.

WTG serves solely as a technology platform provider and does not acquire ownership rights in student educational records.
